AF INDUSTRY: Film Music

60 min.

How is film music created for both independent and large-scale film projects? How does music work in the context of cinematic visuals, rhythm, and editing structure? These and more questions will be explored in this masterclass by one of the most respected figures in film composition. David Kollar, composer of scores for films such as Comeback, Cooltúra, Punk je hned, Stanko, Miki, Černák, and many others, will share his experience.

David Kollar is a Slovak guitarist and composer. His musical journey has earned him numerous prestigious awards, including the national Slnko v sieti award for film music, the Radio_Head Award for contributions to Slovak music, the Radio_Head Award for Best Jazz Album, and the Esprit Award for Best Jazz Album (2021, 2024). His mission is to constantly push the boundaries of musical composition, improvisation, and sonic experimentation.

He has released numerous solo recordings and collaborated with renowned musicians such as Erik Truffaz, Arve Henriksen, Eivind Aarset, Nils Petter Molvaer, Fennesz, Nada Sylvan (singer for Steve Hackett of Genesis), Marco Minnemann, John Van Tongeren, and many others. He released the album KOMARA with Pat Mastelotto (drummer of the legendary band King Crimson) and recorded guitars for albums by Steven Wilson, who has been nominated for six Grammy Awards. Kollar has composed music for more than 20 feature films. In 2021, he was nominated in three categories at the Radio_Head Awards and worked on the scores for two major film projects: MIKI and ČERNÁK.
