A documentary on the life of construction workers who spend most of their time on the road. Winner of the Best Directing Award at the 1990 Days of Czech and Slovak Film in Bratislava. “The assignment to shoot a documentary on a young Socialist worker prompted this first look at the issue of the Slovak ‘guest worker’. Its depiction of the hopelessness and empty lives of the ‘governing social class’ landed the film in the censors’ vault. At the time of its making, the greatest distortions were those that appeared in documentaries about ‘workers and labourers’. The participants in them often just recited memorized lines and oft-repeated phrases. It was so very common that it actually seemed normal. Even director Martin Ťapák, general director of Slovak Film at the time, said after the approval screening that he didn’t know where I’d got hold of such dirty, unsightly workers, since he only knew clean, smartly dressed, rosy-cheeked lads from Orava who dance well by night.” Fero Fenič
