A group of friends head to California’s Joshua Tree National Park for the weekend. But their fun in the sun is suddenly interrupted when one of them, as part of a secret ritual, summons Hisji, an ancient evil that takes the form of its victims. Before long, the bonds of friendship are undermined by distrust and paranoia. Who is really themselves and who is a doppelganger? And what does Hisji have in store for them? Debut director Elle Callahan takes what may at first appear to be a run-of-the-mill story and wraps it in a captivating audiovisual garb, where the blinding sun of the California desert is haunted by a mysterious, omnipresent evil playing a sinister Zoya Akhtar (1972, India) comes from game of cat and mouse.
