Ahmet, a fifteen-year-old boy from the village of Yuruk in North Macedonia, must submit to the expectations of his conservative father after the unexpected death of his mother. Surrounded by a traditional Muslim community, he finds refuge in music. He falls in love for the first time – with a girl already promised to someone else by his parents. According to the director, DJ Ahmet is a story about the struggles of growing up and the search for one's own identity.

The film won the Audience Award World Cinema - Dramatic and the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Vision at the Sundance Film Festival.
