In 1989, consummate professional and outstanding actor Petr Nárožný starred in the witty television comedy Escape from the Small Screen, a film overflowing with farce and irony.
Since the time when director Hynek Bočan (Nobody Will Laugh, Mystery of the Conundrum, My Companions in the Bleak House, The Land Gone Wild) shot the film and co-wrote it with Miroslav Skála, the topic of small-screen actors has only gained in relevance, now that Slovakia is well into the age of “never-ending” series. Which means that today’s audiences will enjoy the film all the more. Based on the concept of a “screen within a screen”, the comedy centres on the star (played by N árožný) of a popular ongoing series, depicting his life both onscreen and off. As the line between the two begins to blur, with fans and others often confusing him with his character, his role begins to take on a life of its own, changing his actual life in the process.
