17-year-old schoolgirl Lena is on the threshold of adulthood. But getting through it is no picnic. Utterly devastated by her traumatic experiences, she withdraws into herself, refusing to discuss them – not even with those closest to her.
This powerful and intimate portrait of a deeply scarred young woman is told from her perspective, capturing the teenager’s dreams, whimsical nature and family conflicts. With remarkable visual sensitivity, Slovak filmmaker Tereza Nvotová’s thesis film effectively and convincingly lays bare the painful core of rape – the victim’s shame and self-doubt, so often inseparably linked to the crime itself.
The film had its world premiere at the Rotterdam IFF, won the Czech Film Critics’ Award for Best Film, and received the JOJ Cinema Audience Award at the 25th IFF Art Film, where Dominika Morávková was also awarded the Blue Angel Award for Best Actress.
