Written and directed by Saša Gedeon, Closed Due to Family Mourning is based on Alberto Moravia’s short story “Fire” (“La voglia di vino”) from the collection Roman Tales (“Racconti romani”). This bittersweet snapshot follows a single day in a small barbershop somewhere in pre-war Italy. Rather than relying on plot, the film builds its strength through emotional tension and a richly atmospheric mood.
