Pre-war Budapest in 1936 forms the backdrop for a story revolving around charismatic journalist and reporter Zsigmond Gordon (Krisztián Kolovratnik), specializing in criminal cases. When a mysterious beauty asks him for a light in a café, she leaves him the bill for lunch with no explanation. Moments later, she is found dead on the street, lying beside a Jewish prayer book. The investigation of the seemingly inconsequential case reveals unexpected links to a game with very high stakes. The city is preparing for the state funeral of Prime Minister Gyula Gömbös, and the newspaper photographer is swiftly replaced by Krisztina (Réka Tenki), Gordon’s girlfriend. She has just arrived from Berlin, where her sudden departure was seen to by a certain Adolf, thanks to some inappropriate photographs. The film noir aesthetic suggestively captures the gloomy atmosphere before the looming cataclysm of WWII and the reality of Horthy-era Hungary.
