Feature debut by Nigerian-born, London-based director Olive Nwosu transports us to the vibrant streets of Lagos – a city shaped by poverty, corruption and gender inequality – where a young taxi driver known as Lady struggles to make a living. As one of the few women behind the wheel, she has built her life on discipline and determination, trying to outrun her past. But when her old friend Pinky, now a sex worker, unexpectedly reappears, Lady is drawn into the nightlife of a close-knit group of women whose energy, solidarity and vulnerability gradually begin to transform the way she sees herself and the world around her.

Lady is an intense exploration of female friendship and survival in a society where economic pressure shapes both personal choices and human relationships. Blending a raw social portrait of Lagos with visually dynamic storytelling, Olive Nwosu crafts a film about dignity, freedom and belonging. While the film also reflects the postcolonial realities of contemporary Nigeria, at its heart it remains an intimate story of a woman learning to trust both other people and her own voice again.

The film had its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it received the Special Jury Award for Ensemble Cast, and was later screened at the Berlinale.
