The year is 1972, and the police have just discovered the 11th body of a woman killed by a serial killer known as the Vampire. The situation is critical – this time, the victim is a relative of the first secretary of the Communist Party. Two teams have already attempted to investigate the complicated case, but to no avail. The killer writes anonymous letters to the police, threatening to murder 30 women to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the birth of the Polish People’s Republic. To head the investigation, the leadership names young policeman Janusz Jasiński (Mirosław Haniszewski). For him, this is a once-in-a-career opportunity, and the investigation’s success means a great deal to him. Without delay, he detains the suspect, who desperately maintains his innocence. The apparent certainty of glory and advancement gives way to doubts, which begin to take their toll on Jasiński’s sanity. Like Marcin Koszałka’s The Red Spider (2015), this crime thriller is based on actual events. I’m a Killer won Silver Lions and Best Screenplay at the Gdynia Film Festival and the Special Jury Award at the Chicago IFF.
