After the death of his father, 18-year-old Totone must grow up quickly to look after his 7-years-old sister and their family farm in Jura. He assumes even more responsibility when he tries to enter the competition for the best Comté cheese in the region. He could win a gold medal and 30,000 euros at the agricultural competition.
The film marks the Courvoisier’s feature debut as well as the on-screen debut of Clément Faveau, who stars as young farm boy Totone. Holy Cow premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it was awarded the Youth Prize.
„I am very fond of Totone, even though he is not a hero and he is full of flaws. I wanted to show his imperfections as much as his strengths. Totone is like a clumsy and overexcited puppy, who may dance half-naked on a bar, or fail to help his father when he needs it, but is sweet and lovable all the same,“ said the director.
