A tragicomedy about an aging bachelor and a poignant portrait of people living on the margins of society. Dušan Hanák’s fourth feature was completed in 1980, but communist censorship delayed its release until late 1988. When it finally premiered, it was met with enthusiastic acclaim from Czechoslovak film critics. In 1989, it went on to win the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin IFF and received both the Grand Prize and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Strasbourg IFF.
