Inspired by the discovery of a trilobite fossil, as well as little Jirka’s longing to see his favourite museum
exhibits in the flesh, four boys set off
on an adventure. Petr the narrator,
Jenda the expedition leader, Toník
the photographer and Jirka, the
youngest, hop in a boat and navigate
the cave near where Jirka found
the prehistoric fossil. Thus begins
a journey into prehistory, where
mammoths and more await. As they
travel backwards through time, the
landscape around them changes. In
their diaries, they carefully record
their thrilling encounters with
prehistoric flora and fauna. The boys
find themselves in various periods
and environments, including the Late
Quaternary, the Ice Age, the Tertiary,
the Mesozoic and the Palaeozoic, all
the way to a Silurian sea, where they
finally meet a real, live trilobite. One
of the finest children’s adventure
films and a trailblazing piece of world
cinema to boot, the film is being
screened in its digitally restored edition for the first time in Slovakia.
