After his father's death, Kaoljan returns to Bulgaria, where he must face memories of his surroundings, but also images from his own memory. It’s not a harmonious combination, but it gives him a chance to return and reflect on everything he’s lived through — and on who he once was. He lives with his mother in Spain and wants to sell his father's apartment. As he sorts through his things, he turns to his mother online for guidance on what to hold on to — and what to let go of. She orders him to get rid of old photographs, which are consumed by a fire in the yard. He visits relatives and realizes how much everything has changed. Most of the surrounding houses will be demolished to make way for a highway and a new hotel. He also must officially confirm the relocation of graves from the local cemetery, which is also being demolished to make way for a golf course. There is an “awakening of a rootless soul amidst the remnants of an abandoned past.” This is how Bulgarian critics reflected on Windless. The film won the FIPRESCI Award at the Sofia IFF and was named the best Bulgarian film of 2024.
