A tense crime thriller with elements of drama and romance marking director Daniel Roher’s fiction feature debut. Roher, who won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival for Navalny before later receiving the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, delivers a surprising and captivating story about talent operating on the edge of the law. The protagonist is Niki, a piano tuner whose extraordinarily sensitive hearing leads him to an unexpected discovery: he can “hear” the mechanisms inside safes and unlock them. As financial hardship and personal circumstances begin to close in around him, he is drawn into a criminal underworld that threatens both his relationships and his sense of self.

The film offers more than a conventional genre story – it becomes a metaphor for the search for balance between talent and morality, sensitivity and survival within a system that often pushes individuals to the limits of legality. Sound, noise, and music play a crucial role throughout the film, functioning not only as tools of suspense but also as a way for viewers to experience the world through the protagonist’s perception. The film screened at the prestigious festivals in Telluride and Toronto and was selected for Canada’s Top Ten 2025.
