The year is 1613. The Globe Theatre having burned to the ground, William Shakespeare returns to his family seat in Stratford, where he tries, after a hiatus of many years, to revive his relationship with his wife Anna and his two daughters. Making up for his long years of absence is no easy task. But most of all, William misses his son Hamnet, who died at the age of 11. A quiet, meditative portrait of the genius playwright. Instead of emphasizing his prodigious work, the unhurried narrative explores the bard’s mental world toward the end of his life. The kind of life he lived, and the truth and meaning he found in it.
