The film reconstructs the post-war events of the late 1940s, when the French consulate in Bratislava helped people trying to escape from communist Czechoslovakia. When Robert Štosek was detained at the Austrian border, authorities discovered that he had once worked at the French consulate, where his father was still employed. He was handed over to the State Security Service, which used the opportunity to access a secure safe containing sensitive documents. One arrest led to another, and soon an entire group was rounded up – labelled as an anti-state espionage network allegedly led by Jiří Dlouhý, the consulate’s first secretary. The entire affair has since been examined by historians and eyewitnesses. Consul Étienne Manac’ha, Robert Štosek’s father, is remembered through the eyes of his daughter, who spent her childhood on Galandova Street – in a villa that once belonged to Karol Sidor, the former ambassador to the Vatican. In a twist of irony, the entire operation through which the communist regime eliminated its perceived enemies was named after her father.
