Jane Schoenbrun’s new film is a queer meta-slasher set within the fictional horror franchise Camp Miasma. It follows Kris, a young independent filmmaker who is given the opportunity to reboot a once-cult, now-forgotten slasher series. To breathe new life into it, she returns to the original filming location and seeks out its legendary “final girl,” the now reclusive and enigmatic actress Billy (Gillian Anderson), who lives in isolation on the grounds of the former camp.

What begins as a professional collaboration gradually evolves into an intense relationship in which fascination, trauma, and desire become entangled. Reality begins to unravel under the weight of film mythology, memory, and repressed emotion, until the boundary between reboot and real life dissolves entirely.

The director continues her signature style – blending horror genre conventions with an intimate study of identity, queer desire, and media obsession. The film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it was received as a strikingly original and visually daring contribution to contemporary horror.

It won the Queer Palm at Cannes 2026.
