This dark, gritty urban drama with elements of suspense
thrusts us into the world of Tomáš, whose lonely life consists of a strict
routine. Working for a funeral parlour, he makes his living by cleaning up
places where people or pets have died. His day-to-day tedium is disrupted by a
new hobby, which he discovers when circumstances compel him to remain hidden in
a client’s home after his work is done. Tomáš begins to secretly observe the
lives of the bereaved right in their homes, a bizarre pastime that grows into an
obsession. The situation gets out of control when he falls in love and decides
to reveal the secret kept by Kristína, the object of his affections, and her
suspicious older brother. The Cleaner is a film about interpersonal communication
difficulties. About how deeply events from our childhood can influence us, and
how hard it is to come to terms with them. The film earned Marek Kráľovský a
Slovak national Sun in a Net Award for Best Editing and Martin Žiaran the Best
Cinematography prize at Film Fest in Lecce, Italy.
