With no job and a frozen bank account, Alexandre is approaching retirement age. When his wife leaves on a two-month business trip, he gets his last chance to find work and provide for his children. To his surprise, he’s hired on a trial basis by an eco-friendly start-up with two very strict rules: 24/7 availability and no kids. Unfeasible as these conditions are for Alexandre, when he’s offered help from Arcimboldo, he decides to rise to the challenge.
Well-known French actor Bruno Podalydés directs this brilliant, ironic comedy about the virtual world and its inevitable failure to replace real interpersonal relationships. It pokes fun at false notions of grinding away in pursuit of recognition and social status while abandoning those real values which nevertheless persist in relationships with family and friends. Though serious and topical, these issues are presented with lightness and sparkling wit. Yet another picture that was supposed to be screened at Cannes 2020.
