The 1940s. Slovak State during wartime builds its identity on hatred toward minorities. After the expulsion of Czech citizens, the first Jewish transports begin. Rising nationalism reaches even the countryside, affecting Marika – a Hungarian widow who loses her job at an Aryanized tailor’s salon in Bratislava. Soon, guards arrive in her village with a clear mission: “To sow Slovak blood in this foreign corner of the Slovak border!” Because of her origins and the fact that she’s hiding a Jewish boy, Marika tries to remain invisible. But even in hiding, she draws the attention of two men: a captain in the Slovak Hlinka Guard and a German Nazi officer.
For his chilling performance, Milan Ondrík was nominated for the Czech Lion for Best Supporting Actor.
