Mammalia combines elements of comedy, drama, fairy tale, horror, and thriller. Mihăilescu and Téglás confront the lethargy and conformity of standard views of contemporary reality and promote a different type of perspective. In an experimental type of storytelling – a clever satire interweaves anarchy, art, and gender in the name of an unusual, often uncomfortable, sometimes funny, and sometimes clumsy final form. It is an absurdist film, crazily composed with a poetics that induces complete life paralysis. Scenes follow each other only loosely and associatively – they tell the story of Camilo, who can't cope with life, and it's no wonder when reality pulls all sorts of weird stunts on him.
It won the International European Film Competition at the Odessa IFF 2023.
