Özge, a woman of Turkish descent living in Vienna, makes her living as a taxi driver. Aside from that, she also goes to night school and does Thai boxing. These valuable lessons end up proving quite useful after she witnesses the brutal murder of a young woman. The evidence points to a serial killer who commits heinous acts in the name of radical Islam. Even worse, he knows that Özge saw him. Thus begins a game of cat and mouse as Özge fights for her life on the streets of Vienna. The film’s title is a reference to the Islamic concept of hell as a place where sinners must face twofold torment in the form of extreme heat and cold. Rather than avoiding genre expectations, the film expertly fulfils them with its bleak noir atmosphere, moments of giallo-esque horror and action scenes featuring the female protagonist. At the same time it calls attention to the still-relevant issue of the migrant crisis and the related topic of cultural conflict.
