The four-strong punk band Ain’t Rights is roaming the country, looking for a place to play. No one’s interested, and since they're hard up for cash, they agree to perform at a skinhead bar. Everything goes as planned – until bassist Pat stumbles upon a murder in progress. The club owner locks the band in a green room with a menacing bouncer while he decides what to do with them. With precious little time left, they desperately plan their escape. Director/screenwriter Jeremy Saulnier takes what is essentially a worn-out, boilerplate genre and manages to write a fresh, top-notch story with believable characters and sharply funny dialogue. Green Room is an undeniably bloody, gruesome, but above all highly suspenseful low-budget thriller with an acid wit and excellent performances – including Patrick Stewart as the club boss. And possibly most terrifying of all, the film’s basic premise doesn’t even seem all that far-fetched in light of our current circumstances.
