At the dawn of the 1800s, a Viennese countess selects an African boy to be educated, and the erstwhile slave grows up to be an exotic exemplar of modern education. He is accepted into aristocratic society, but only until he decides to take his life into his own hands. Inspired by the real-life story of Angelo Soliman (born Mmadi Make, 1721–1796), Angelo earned three Austrian Film Awards, specifically for costume design (Tanja Hausner), makeup (Anette Keiser) and production design (Andreas Sobotka & Martin Reiter).
