It is 1974, and a group of diverse women work in a tailor's workshop where film and theatre costumes are sewn. At work, they all must contend with the fast pace, demanding quality requirements, the whims of their clients, the competitiveness of their sisters who run the studio, and the lack of time for a lunch break. In their private lives, each of them is living her own book, but none of them belong in a romance novel. They are all secretly struggling with something – men, violence, poverty, fear. And each with her own weapons. What unites them is their indomitability, strength, and solidarity.
Italian director Ferzan Ozpetek, who has Turkish roots, is known for his ability to tell even difficult stories in an appealing cinematic form. In the case of Diamonds, he was also able to draw on the advantages offered by the setting of a fashion studio. So, in addition to his actresses, the screen is also dazzled by a variety of costumes, patterns, and especially colours.
The film won The David di Donatello Audience Award.
