A dark and deeply symbolic political drama by Turkish director Emin Alper, which premiered in the main competition at the Berlinale, where it won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize. Set in an isolated mountain region, the film follows a long-standing conflict between two clans that gradually escalates into an explosive mix of fear, faith, and collective hysteria. Alper builds tension slowly – from latent hostility to fanatical violence fuelled by superstition, religious visions, and mob manipulation. At the centre stands Mesut, a man torn between personal trauma, social pressure, and his own “prophetic” visions, which begin to shape – and distort – the reality of the entire community. The film becomes a parable about cycles of hatred and social radicalization, in which the promise of “salvation” turns into a justification for destruction.
