16-year-old Suzanne lives according to a pleasant-enough routine, consisting of her orderly family and school with her boring classmates, with whom she shares nothing in common. One day, a thirty-something actor from the local theatre catches her eye; thus begins a peculiar relationship full of conversation. After some time, Suzanne realizes that she’s fallen in love with the charismatic actor, presenting her with a dilemma: should she continue her relationship with this older man, even if it means forgoing the chance to naturally mature among her peers?
This charming debut of Suzanne Lindon (daughter of famous actors Sandrine Kiberlain and Vincent Lindon) is an auspicious start for the 20-year-old French director, who also stars in the film. Bearing the Cannes 2020 emblem, the film is a minimalistic work that convincingly portrays those fleeting first flushes of love, captured in a few words, a slight tremble, an unassuming glance or the flex of a muscle. The result is a manifestly modern narrative, complemented by the authentic ambiance of Parisian cafes and streets.
