This directorial debut of 53-year-old actor Henrik Schyffert is a major Swedish cinematic event that has lasted two festival seasons. Upon its premiere at last year’s Göteborg Film Festival, it won the Audience Award for Best Nordic Film as well as the FIPRESCI grand prize. Soon after the crowd-pleasing picture’s premiere, Sweden’s cinemas were closed due to the breakout of COVID-19. This spring, the film received three more awards from the Swedish Film Institute: Best Film, Best Actor and Best Screenplay.

Run Uje Run is the film autobiography of Uje Brandelius, frontman of the Swedish rock group Doktor Kosmos, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2015. Following an album and stage production of the same name, Brandelius, a non-actor, wrote and starred in the film.

In it, the musician first tries to hide the shocking revelation from everyone else, even his family, but eventually his growing fears and demoralizing daily routine force him to change his attitude to the rest of his life.

A brilliant example of a “small yet big” film, Run Uje Run is intelligent, touching and funny, run through with catchy songs from the popular Swedish performer.
