Fine, Thanks is a feature-length film made up of three separate stories and an epilogue. The individual chapters play out over the backdrop of today’s economic crisis, which works its way into the characters' intimate lives, mercilessly exposing their distorted relationships. But the crisis isn’t the cause of their disrupted ties – it only serves to accelerate the emergence of problems with much deeper roots. Director Mátyás Prikler co-wrote the screenplay with Marek Leščák, a screenwriter/dramaturge who has contributed to numerous domestically and internationally successful Slovak features and documentaries. Together, they created a fiction film that approaches a documentary in its statement on the times we inhabit. Despite several moments of relief, the overall portrayal of reality appears bleak, captured with an honesty verging on the unpleasant. Nonetheless, the film conveys a certain hope. And though the screenplay was written by two men, the film provides welcome perspectives from both genders. The film was premiered in the Bright Future section at the 42nd Rotterdam IFF. It earned its cast four Sun in a Net Awards.
