An expedition to the coldest permanently inhabited place on Earth: Oymyakon, Russia. The village’s roughly 700 people live in a climate that is difficult to even imagine, with winter temperatures often plunging to an unbearable minus 71 degrees Celsius. The ground below their feet is frozen solid year round. This film is a documentary exploration of the locals’ mental world. What ties them to this place; why are they so reluctant to leave? The film has won several international awards, and in 2019 it was among the Oscar submissions in the Best Documentary (Short Subject) category.
