In the spring of 1981, Perla – an impulsive painter and émigré – is forced to return from Vienna to communist Czechoslovakia to settle an old debt. Years ago, she fled the country, and now she’s unwelcome on both sides of the Iron Curtain. On a risky journey to Košice, Perla sets out to confront the buried secrets of her past – the ones she’s tried to forget, but never truly escaped. This film depicts a resilient, strong, and determined woman and mother who tries to live life on her own terms despite the losses she has had to overcome.
At the Diagonale Austrian Film Festival, the film won the Audience Award and awards for costume design (Monika Buttinger) and production design (Klaudia Kiczak).
