Divorcé Aharon has dedicated most of his life to raising his autistic son Uri. They live according to a loving routine, safely isolated from the real world. But when it’s time for Uri to move to a special institution, Aharon, instead of bringing him there, decides to flee with his son, convincing himself that Uri isn’t yet ready to leave him. Or is it the other way around?
This gentle drama deals with a wide range of family relationships, the rights of the differently abled, as well as the nostalgia that comes with aging. These complicated themes are treated by the Israeli director with mastery, without a trace of cheap sentimentality, histrionics or excessive pathos. The remarkable father/son relationship is portrayed brilliantly by Shai Avivi and Noam Imber in the starring roles. The film was originally in the official selection for Cannes 2020.
