A satirical tragicomedy with elements of psychological drama set in a luxurious villa bathed in the Catalan sun. Siblings Jack, Ed, Anna, and Robert live in isolation surrounded by inherited wealth, ignoring the authority of their blind father while searching for meaning in shallow pleasures and mutual dependency. The fragile balance begins to collapse when the eldest brother, Jack, announces that he plans to move away with his partner Martha. Family bonds slowly unravel as Ed uncovers the truth about their mother’s death. As generations of lies come to light, the family finds itself on the verge of complete disintegration.
The film can be read as a sharp critique of privilege and the breakdown of family structures in a world where wealth replaces genuine emotional connection. Director Karim Aïnouz creates a grotesque portrait of a closed-off family trapped in a web of manipulation, dependency, and repressed trauma, while exploring the limits of identity, power, and emotional emptiness.
The film had its world premiere in the main competition at the Berlinale. The screenplay was written by Efthymis Filippou, a longtime collaborator of Yorgos Lanthimos.
