The Graham family is preparing to lay its oldest member to rest: grandmother Ellen. Her daughter Annie, with whom she shared a complicated past, processes her grief by building miniatures, while her husband becomes withdrawn; for her grandchildren Charlie and Peter, the loss is much more difficult. It is through them and the unfolding revelation of past secrets that the life of the entire family, attempting to escape from their nightmarish fate, gradually transforms into a terrifying ordeal, culminating in an unexpected end. Upon its premiere at this year’s Sundance, Hereditary was highly acclaimed by critics, favourably compared with classics of the genre such as Rosemary’s Baby, The Exorcist and Kubrick’s The Shining. Equal parts powerful family drama and genuine horror, the film’s everintensifying suspense will leave you gasping for breath.
