A television portrait of actor Ivan Palúch, luminary of the Slovak film world. His long career reached celestial heights, but upon his return to Czechoslovakia, he suffered under the strict restrictions of the normalization era. The regime took away his right to travel, his creative freedom, and his prospects of developing as an artist. In Slovakia, Palúch is best known for his characters from cult classic films and television such as Prince Bajaja and Adam Šangala. Most of his films from the 1960s and early 70s, however, remain less known, in part because they were permanently banned by censors. Unlike his colleagues abroad such as Annie Girardot, David Warner, Omar Sharif, Anna Karina and Anita Pallenberg, but similar to other artists working under Communist rule, he was forced to conform to restrictive cultural policies which directly impacted his creative path, personal life and professional development. This film also acts as a cautionary tale, reflecting what happens to art when it is bent to the wills of incompetent leaders, and the consequences of their interference on the life of a free-thinking individual.

Ivan Palúch is also the subject of a feature film on its way to cinemas: Countdown – The Last Film of Ivan Palúch.
