Love & Anarchy
Cleaning & Cleansing
Director(s): Thomas FürhapterAT92 min.2024

A minimalist observational documentary with long static shots. It offers a fascinating, almost meditative reflection on the many ways we try to eliminate dirt, dust, impurity, and disorder from our lives and surroundings. The associative montage creates a strange world of images of (mental) hygiene, sacred rituals and stereotypes, decontamination in the army and cleaning ladies in churches... The camera allows us to see what our unfocused eyes simply cannot notice, even though it is all around us: constant cleaning and polishing in the name of keeping the world as we know it and as we are accustomed to it.

The film was partially shot in Slovakia.

François Truffaut, le scénario de ma vie
Director(s): David TeboulFR100 min.2024

A few months before his untimely death, François Truffaut began revisiting the highs and lows of his childhood and youth in conversations with his longtime confidant, Claude de Givray. He was only 52 when he passed away, leaving behind an unfinished autobiography titled My Life, a Screenplay. Director David Teboul breathes life into Truffaut’s final reflections with this intimate documentary, drawing on a wealth of never-before-seen archival footage, personal letters, and the director’s own narration. The result is a moving portrait of a man who, despite a childhood starved of affection, remained tender, generous, and endlessly curious – qualities that would make him the most beloved French filmmaker of the 20th century.

The film had its world premiere in 2024 at Cannes, in the Cannes Classics section.

Mass protests erupt across Belarus after rigged presidential elections, gaining unstoppable momentum. Lena, an anti-regime journalist, reports live from the scene of a peaceful demonstration brutally crushed by security forces – until a police drone tracks her down. Even then, she keeps broadcasting… until she's arrested. Her husband, Ilya, launches a desperate plan to get her out of the country, but the regime has no intention of letting her go. What follows is a relentless struggle as the system sets out to break them both.

The film is inspired by the true story of Belarusian journalists Igor Ilyush and Katiaryna Andrejevova, who was arrested in November 2020 and is still serving an eight-year sentence.

The film is an extension of her short film Live (2022), which competed at Art Film Fest in 2023.

Under the Grey Sky won the award for best directorial debut or second film at the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia.

The Police Symphony Orchestra is an amateur ensemble from Police nad Metují that has achieved remarkable success. It was the first amateur group ever to perform in the Grand Finale of the prestigious Smetana’s Litomyšl International Music Festival and has also taken the stage at the Rudolfinum and the Rock for People festival. This documentary, filmed over several years, follows the joyful journey of the orchestra and its members since 2019, under the spirited leadership of their dedicated manager, Petra Soukupová. It captures the full spectrum of their experience – passion, fatigue, and the personal sacrifices required to balance music with everyday life. A powerful element of the film is its setting: a small town nestled in a picturesque landscape, which brings an added depth to the orchestra’s story and sound. This is a captivating portrait of a group united by their love of music – a celebration of collective performance, perseverance, and the unique bond between musicians and their audience.

Anička Jesenská inherits a house with a greenhouse and a dental office in the town of Medov from her mysterious uncle. After Anička’s mother died under the care of a village blacksmith – who, despite having a reputation as a local dental expert –, Anička, now a trained doctor, is determined to help others, especially children. But there's one problem: no one comes to her. The villa she inherited has a dark reputation. Locals say that it’s a haunted house, and they avoid it like the plague. Rumour has it a spring runs beneath the house straight from the depths of hell. Then everything changes. Thanks to an exotic Peruvian herb growing in her greenhouse, Anička makes a breakthrough: dental procedures don’t have to be painful. Word spreads, and her office is suddenly packed with patients. Not everyone is thrilled by her success, though. Dr. Druml, a rival dentist in town, sees her as a threat. A lopsided battle begins – but Anička isn’t alone. A gang of local kids soon jumps in to help, and the fight for better dental care turns into something much bigger.
