During the First World War, 15-year-old Anka comes to work as a maid in the Prague villa of a high-ranking Austro-Hungarian official and his wife. The rest of the servants – the cook Kristína, the maid Líza and the gardener Štefan – becomes Anka's new family. But besides them, she also acquires an arch-enemy – the equally old daughter of the landlord's family, Resi. However, the animosity gradually turns into sympathy and a romantic relationship develops between the young women. It all happens at a time when women did not even have the right to vote, let alone the right to the love of their choice. Through the historical story of forbidden love, the film explores important issues and problems that Slovak society faces today. The story of the film is inspired by the book of the same name by Hana Lasicová, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mariana Čengel Solčanská.
