The Adamant is a unique day care centre and also a floating structure located on the Seine in the heart of Paris. It primaly welcomes adults suffering from mental disorders. It offers them care and helps them to recover or keep up their spirits. The team running it is tries to resist the deterioration and dehumanization of psychiatry as best it can. They organize numerous workshops: sewing, listening to music, reading, writing, drawing and painting, working with leather, making jams, cultural trips. There is a film club as well as organized relaxation courses but patients can also come here just to spend free time, drink a cup of coffee, feel welcome and free to soak up the atmosphere of the place. Director Nicolas Philibert invites the audience on board to meet both patients and caregivers who invent life in the extraordinary centre day to day. On the Adamant won the Golden Bear for Best Film at this year’s Berlinale.
