Twelve-year-old Dalva dresses and performs as an adult woman. One day, she is forcibly separated from her father and taken to a youth welfare centre. She finds herself in a world where she clearly does not fit in. She struggles to come to terms with the fact that she has been taken away from her father, whom she loves unconditionally, but those around her make it clear that their relationship had nothing to do with natural parental love. Frustrated, Dalva must accept the fact that nothing has been as she had imagined. As she deals with the trauma, she finds support in social worker Jayden and in her friendship with spirited teenager Samia. Dalva seems to be starting a new life.
The film explores a serious subject from the perspective of an underage girl in a brilliant performance by young rising film star Zelda Samson.
It won the FIPRESCI Award as part of Critics' Week at the Cannes IFF in 2022 and the Audience Award at the Rotterdam IFF in 2023.
