At the end of the 19th century, a young Danish priest Lucas travels to a remote part of Iceland to build a church and photograph its inhabitants. He makes the ardous journey on horseback across the inhospitable landscape. The deeper he travels into the landscape, the more he strays from his purpose, mission and morality and loses a sense of his reality and duty. In addition, the fragile Lucas must also deal with a gruff Islandic guide Ragnat. How this priest will fare living among a people connected to the forces of nature, rather than the will of God, is his true test.Filmed across many years, director Hlynur Pálmason showcases the harsh Islandic landscape how it requires all who live there to commune with nature in a spiritual act.
The film was screened at the Cannes IFF in the Un Certain Regard Section and actor Elliott Crosset Hove was nominated for a European Film Award.
